A 40 Day Breakthrough

Scripture

10So David inquired of God, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You hand them over to me?” Then the Lord said to him, “Go up, and I will hand them over to you.” 11So Israel came up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated the Philistines there. Then David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters.” Therefore they named that place I.e. master of breakthroughs. 12The Philistines abandoned their gods (idols) there; so David gave a command and they were burned in a fire [as the Law of Moses required]. 1 Chronicles 14:10-12 (AMP)

Observation

Right after this breakthrough against the Philistines David inquired of the Lord again. God told him not to go back the way he came and gave him a new strategy for a breakthrough against an old enemy. See the pattern? If you want a breakthrough then bring it to the Lord. The Hebrew word for “breakthrough” is a powerful word picture. It’s the idea of a great army rushing into a city through a breach in its wall and the bravest soldiers positioning themselves in the most vulnerable gaps to lay down their lives for those inside the city. When David inquired of the Lord He was inviting the Lord to fight the battle that led to a breakthrough. God positioned Himself between the Philistines and David and his armies. It makes sense to invite the Master of Breakthroughs into our battles!

Application

Today marks a 40 Day Breakthrough. May 1st marks 40 days of quarantine and we are starting to see the same thing David saw. God’s people are inquiring of the Lord’s strategies, abandoning and burning the idols we have been bowing down to and receiving fresh perspective for the days ahead. If you want a breakthrough bring it to the Lord. Whatever challenge, whatever threat, whatever worries, whatever fear, bring it to the Lord and you’ll see breakthrough. Bring it to the Lord, especially if it’s a familiar enemy. What worked before won’t work anymore. I've shared this before, but the significance of this moment bears repeating here. A friend shared some facts they had accumulated about how important these 40 Days are to our spiritual journey and I wanted to share them with you again: The Latin root of the word "quarantine" is "forty". So what does the Bible say about 40? The flood lasted 40 days. 40 years Moses fled Egypt. 40 days Moses stayed on Mount Sinai to receive the Commandments. Exodus lasted 40 years. Jesus fasted for 40 days. 40 days for a woman to rest after giving birth. Optimum number of weeks for human gestation is 40. A group of theologians thinks the number 40 represents "change”. It is the time of preparing a person, or people, to make a fundamental change. Something will happen after these 40 days. Just believe and pray. Remember, whenever the number 40 appears in the Bible, there is a "change". Please know that during this "quarantine" rivers are cleaning up, vegetation is growing, the air is becoming cleaner because of less pollution, there is less theft and murder, healing is happening, and most importantly, people are turning to Christ. The Earth is at rest for the first time in many years and hearts are truly transforming. Remember we are in the year 2020, and 20 + 20 = 40. Also, 2020 is the year of the United States Census. Jesus Christ, the savior of the world, was born during a census. Lastly, 2020 is perfect vision. May our sight focus on the Lord and living according to His perfect vision for us knowing He holds us in the palm of His hand. May these days of "quarantine" bring spiritual liberation to our souls, our nation, and our world.”

Prayer

Lord, Master of The Breakthrough, I invite You to stand in the gap, the holes in my wall, the places where I am weary, worn, and worried. You have taught me so much these past 40 days and I’m ready to step into my breakthrough in You. I refuse to turn to what I knew and instead I choose to embrace the new thing You are about to do. I’m so thankful that, on my first day officially unemployed, you gave me this word about a breakthrough! We start mid-May at The Fathers House and I believe the breakthrough starts now!
